This is the key to the success of a man who mainly votes "present" and who does not work on major legislation: the appearance of experience without actually accomplishing anything.
Perhaps ... perhaps what we're seeing is the second coming of Bill Clinton. More responsible in his personal life, more leftish-radical in his politics, but at the core a whole lotta charm and ambition.
Bill Clinton was interesting when he talked policy: he'd know a great deal more than many of the others at the table. I'd still disagree with him, but that wasn't a disagreement with someone unable to defend himself.
Obama is quite otherwise, and rather petulant about disagreement, since it doesn't take into account his innate wonderfulness.
