People Want to Talk to Government: Government Upset
30th-Jan-2008 06:59 am
"Upset" is probably an understatement: the state of Oklahoma has decided to charge three people with "feloniously petitioning them while not being residents of the state". You might remember Oklahoma as the state with lying DAs and bad forensic science. Keep the image. Just add "thugs in government office" to the list.

Let's look at that "felony" part again. Petition wrong, and you lose the right to vote. Hmmm.

Here's the story. Hat tip to Instapundit.

This might be a good time to think: what restrictions do I have in my state about petitioning the government?

And for you residents of Oklahoma, would you care to investigate other states?

I'm pretty sure that Okalahoma's law is in violation of the US Constitution, as it imposes restrictions on the freedom of speech of people in other states.

I think the answer is that what is felonious is not the saying it in other states, but the petitioning it in Oklahoma. In other words, you can call us what you like, so long as you do nothing to interfere with our business at home. All things considered, Oklahoma sounds like rather a nasty little hole.
